Soad’s story: How has Covid-19 changed the lives of refugee families in Egypt?

Soad*, a Syrian primary school teacher living in Cairo, could never have prepared herself for the current COVID-19 crisis. Like many mothers, Soad struggled to find sufficient hygiene and sterilization products after panic buying resulted in shortages and over-pricing.

World Humanitarian Day 2020: A thank you to our heroes!

On the 19th of August of each year, we mark World Humanitarian Day (WHD) to pay tribute to aid workers who exert every effort through humanitarian service. This WHD we want to highlight the efforts of our staff at Save the Children, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite making it harder than ever for humanitarians to stay and deliver for children and those most in need, our teams have remained present and more determined than ever.

Nothing can get in their Education’s way!

 

As in many countries around the world, the coronavirus outbreak led to sudden nationwide school closures across Egypt. The Ministry of Education decided that primary and preparatory students would be evaluated according to a number of research papers instead of taking final exams. the research papers need to be submitted before the end of the academic year in order to pass to the next grade.
